Summit set to focus on US-Danish biomethane experiences

7. juli 2021

Biomethane production is growing rapidly in the US as well as in Denmark, where it is projected that 30% of the gas in the grid will be green in 2023. Biogas as a driver for climate goals, innovations and experiences from the two countries are on the agenda when the strongest forces within Danish and American biogas sectors gather for a summit on Monday 23 August 2021.

How can experiences from the Danish and North American biogas sectors be used to further grow the solution in the two countries and globally? And how do global food companies such as Smithfield Foods and Arla view biogas as part of the green transition?

On Monday, 23 August from 9.00-11.15 Eastern Time, the digital summit "A Celebration of Biogas' Role in the Danish and US Energy & Agrifood Sectors" will focus on how biogas acts as a driver for climate and UN Sustainability Development Goals and how different biogas models can be scaled.

“Over the past three years, we have partnered up with the Danish Energy Agency, The Danish Foreign Ministry in the US, a group of Danish biogas companies and last but not least strong private and public biogas stakeholders in the US to accelerate biogas cooperation between the two countries. Both countries show good example and inspire biogas to become even more widespread,” says Claus Gunge Ellegaard Mortensen, Director of Biogas Go Global, Food & Bio Cluster Denmark.

At the summit, there will be presentations highlighting the efforts of the two governments, NGOs and companies that have helped biogas to scale in Denmark and in the US. Emphasis will also be placed on the progress made by the United States in the same areas and how and why biogas plays a crucial role in the intersection between renewable energy, agriculture, bioeconomy and environment. Finally, there will be speakers with a global biogas perspective who will share their insights on how knowledge sharing can help countries across the globe exploit the benefits and potential of biogas.

The program is continuously updated.

Organizers of the summit are The Trade Council in North America under the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Biogas Go Global project, Food & Bio Cluster Denmark and the Danish Energy Agency.
